And yet another memory to process: The Annual Report. See, it’s time for the JWC Annual Report. Every December for the past four years, Deb and I conducted the “Annual Meeting” at Oscar Penn’s in Inverness. I brought a printed agenda, and we’d dissect how well the blog did that year, whether we met goals, and set out measurable goals for the year to come. (I know…romantic as heck.) We’d do that while enjoying a delicious meal.
I considered the Annual Meeting this year, but decided to cancel it. And no Annual Report either, at least not in the regular sense. Because here’s the truth: It’s not that I want to ignore the blog’s growth, what we did right, what we did wrong, that sort of thing. It just seems so, I don’t know, irrelevant right now. This grief business is the strangest experience I’ve ever encountered. I can go hours, days, with nothing but focus and joy. It then goes sideways with no warning. The blog is both my saving grace and biggest challenge. Because — no kidding here — nothing is more difficult than writing this blog. I set out goals each day, but I know that writing is the biggest hurdle. I'm not trying to avoid writing. I’m actually finding it rather helpful. Several people suggested journaling through my grief. That’s sorta what you’re reading. You’ve graciously allowed me to wander this process in a blogging manner. I’m just finding it difficult to concentrate. What seems like a decent blog idea at 10 a.m. disappears by 2 p.m. I had something completely different planned for today. It was all lined up. Ready to roll. My brain simply wouldn’t go there. So, how does the blog look like heading into 2026? Can you count on Just Wright Citrus to continue leading the conversation about the things that matter in our community? Answer: Absolutely! And then some. Look, folks. The Just Wright Citrus mission is to inform the community of things that you wouldn’t know if I didn’t tell you. MANY readers have reached out in the last few weeks, gently urging me to not give up on that quest. I just heard from a longtime reader the other day, who wrote: “I’m glad you’re blogging about government stuff again.” I’ll have days like Monday when the X’s and O’s don’t line up, and we may end up with 700 words of Mike drivel (as opposed to the usual 700 words of political drivel). Those days will be few, that I promise. The annual report is this: Just Wright Citrus is fine. It’s swell. We’re continuing to grow in readers and community influence. Everyone and his brother is talking about the sales tax referendum idea, but guess where that conversation started? Right here, with you. Expect much more of that in 2026, a vital election year. I appreciate the encouragement and support from readers all over. We have something very special here, and we all know it. Have a tinsel Tuesday, friends. Join the discussion on our Facebook page.
