Imagine: Your neighborhood gone

Happy Friday, friends.

I’ve been looking at today’s photo several times in the last few days trying to figure out exactly where I’m standing.

And wondering if it’s still there.

Deb and I had taken a trip to Los Angeles, visiting with her Aunt Lois in Dana Point, a quaint little hillside town south of the city.

An addition to my gratitude list

It happened so quickly. Motion, second, no comments, and then a unanimous vote.

Just like that, our world is a little better.

The County Commission and Club Recovery of Citrus County agreed to a 5-year lease at the Historic Hernando School, creating the Old Schoolhouse Community Center.

Shut the barn door on that idea

The County Commission met Tuesday. Let’s ramble.

— First off, Sheriff Dave Vincent dropped in to say hi to commissioners. Just wanted to mention that.

— By a 3-2 consensus, the board will bid out the new Animal Shelter. Commissioners Janet Barek and Diana Finegan, for separate but equally silly reasons, said no.

Sit! Stay! Time for the shelter vote

Happy Tuesday! Let’s talk critters and politics.

The County Commission’s agenda Tuesday includes final design and proposed cost of the new Citrus County Animal Shelter in Lecanto.

Cutting to the chase: It’s an estimated $12.6 million for a shelter that’s roughly twice the size as the one we have now.

It's time for the tomorrow talk

Happy Monday! Let’s chat.

Three words: Sales tax referendum. Yeah, we’re going there.

Just to show how crazy I am, I predict by the time we’ve thoroughly vetted this idea over the next several months, after we’ve had the public come up with something for county commissioners (and not the other way around), after we have a specific plan from the county that details how it will be spent, after we’ve asked and answered ALL the questions, here’s what I see:

Hey, Bunny! This blog is for you

OK, so here’s what happened.

Bunny read the blog.

I have no other explanation for the sudden change in her demeanor from Monday. Or mine, for that matter.

I posted a heartfelt Facebook message on Monday that the Bunny arrangement wasn’t working so well. I liked the dog but she didn’t seem to care for me. She’s a beagle and wants to run and all I have is a leash. Dogs need routine, and I have none.

My vote for Citizen of the Year: Us

Happy Thursday! Today we present the always popular (with me) photo page.

I was speaking Wednesday morning with David “Pasta” DeCarlo, who is heading up Sheriff Dave Vincent’s transparency and community engagement. We were discussing Tuesday’s investiture ceremony at the Old Courthouse during which Pasta noted I was rather animated.

“I’ve never seen you like that,” he said.

This historic night tops them all

It took my entire career to write this blog.

You see, I’m in the word business. I also write about Citrus County politics, so nothing surprises me.

So, when the never-seen-before occurs, I find myself with no words. Some things can’t be explained or described.

Happy Tuesday, friends. Welcome to a glorious day.

It was a Monday morning. We had just gotten out of a staff meeting when my phone rang. On the line, Chronicle Editor Charlie Brennan with a team from the Key Training Center’s Run for the Money kickoff in Tallahassee.

“I have some bad news,” he said, “about Phil.”

Clerk a perfect fit for Traci Perry

1/5/2025

Happy Monday! Traci Perry has a story.

Traci has worked decades for the Citrus County Clerk of Court’s Office. Like everyone else, she’s noticed that available parking spaces in the Courthouse lot are disappearing every day.

Despite having the No. 2 job to Angela Vick, Traci did not have an assigned parking space. So, like everyone else, she took her chances with the two-hour parking.
