Happy Wednesday! We’re going a little light today. The big decision from Tuesday’s County Commission meeting wasn’t a vote at all. By consensus, the sales tax referendum this year is a goner. “One for All” flamed out as a sales tax plan, but it is still a strong community theme. (Here's my Florida Politics story.) Now for something completely different: The backfiring campaign endorsement. In most worlds, a statewide politician endorsing a local county commissioner would be great news for the commissioner. But in one of those political perfect storms, CFO Blaise Ingoglia’s backing of Diana Finegan’s re-election campaign is, as of now, seemingly working against her. Meanwhile, back in reality. So, how was your weekend? Make it to the county fair? Take a nice drive? Get in some spring cleaning? Mine was…adventurous. Which I’ll have some fun with in a blog later this week. Happy Friday! I’m all out of fair words, so it’s time for JWC's annual Citrus County Fair photo page. We start with the true stars of the fair, and that’s the critter exhibits. Chickens ruled the roost (ha!) earlier this week, and rabbits were getting all the loving Thursday evening. The rabbit show and silent auction is today. It’s not lost on me that, for many Citrus Countians, the fair is as close as they’ll get to live farm animals. That these animals are all raised by Citrus County families makes the livestock barn the hub of the fair universe. Here’s a fun question for Fair Week: Is this the best place for the fair? I’m being literal. Should the Citrus County Fairgrounds be in Inverness on a busy highway next to the airport? Or, as some politicians have quietly discussed in recent years, should the fairgrounds be in Lecanto, traditional home of Citrus County’s agricultural community? Hey, it’s Wednesday, so let’s talk a little politics. I usually would be writing about politics at the Citrus County Fair. The political organizations and candidates are stationed in the Jacobs Building. Everyone looked chipper when we chatted during a very busy Tuesday night. Let’s see how they’re doing by Saturday afternoon. Real life politics showed up Tuesday, so we’re going to get into that. Well, this is annoying. Had a great blog planned for today about Sheriff Dave Vincent fulfilling campaign promises. Turns out, I’ve written it. Twice. The man is in his second full year and already earning plenty of accolades. We found love at the county fair. Gee, I wonder how many couples can say that. A dozen? Few hundred? Maybe more over the decades. County fairs are romantic by their very nature. For Deb and me, our love that ended tragically on Oct. 24 began at the 2009 Citrus County Fair. Happy spring! We have an addition to the family. Its name is Pixel. The Motorola, which I often mistakenly referred to as a Magnavox, rests all alone in a table drawer. Cracked screen, constantly messing up, but a familiar feel in my left rear pocket. |
