It’s out of the frying pan and into the bonfire for Citrus County commissioners after last week’s 5-0 vote against the Sugarmill Woods apartments. The Planning and Development Commission (PDC) meets Thursday morning and will hear for a second time the Ozello glampground zoning request. One of the biggest Citrus County political stories of 2024 may be unfolding a year earlier. Sheriff Mike Prendergast continues his head-scratching political decisions, this time sending an email to county Republican leaders in the hopes of convincing them he is really, truly a conservative Republican. Happy Friday my Citrus County friends. Let's chat. If you pay even the slightest attention to Just Wright Citrus blogs you know:
It’s brass tacks time for Sugarmill Woods. Months of debate comes to a head Thursday as Citrus County commissioners have a 5 p.m. public hearing on a rezoning that would bring 250 apartments to Oak Village. It’s a beautiful Wednesday in Inverness so let’s go to the beach. Well, um, technically we don’t have one. That could soon change. The city wants to dredge a stretch of Big Lake Henderson to create a sandy-bottom beach at Wallace Brooks Park. Last week I participated in one of America’s great pastimes: Gave the government my opinion. It was the Inverness City Council meeting and I, an Inverness resident, had thoughts on the city’s plan for a beach at Wallace Brooks Park, and relocating the boat dock from Wallace Brooks to Liberty Park. Happy Monday! Today’s blog subject is government buildings. Hang with me. There’s a point here. We have numerous government buildings in this county. Excluding schools, let’s see if I can do this off the top of my head: Inverness City Hall, Crystal River City Hall, Courthouse, Courthouse Annex, Historic Old Courthouse, West Citrus Center (Meadowcrest) Citrus County Resource Center, Lecanto Government Building, Citrus County Health Department. Two thoughts to kick out while listening to random Pandora tunes in the earbuds: — About 200 community and business leaders gathered last Friday at Citrus Hills for the annual Chamber of Commerce Pillar Awards. These awards are given to the best our community has to offer and it’s an impressive list. Our sheriff is once again in a p.r. pickle. You may recall just two months ago Sheriff Mike Prendergast’s office assisted the feds in arresting the “Sedition Panda” in Lecanto. Not only that, but the sheriff took a righteous stand on the agency’s Facebook page, saying those who participated in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot were not Patriots but criminals instead. His supporters did not agree. It’s Wednesday so let’s talk about Commissioner Jeff Kinnard. Kinnard filed his paperwork Tuesday at the supervisor of elections office signaling a re-election campaign in 2024. He’ll be seeking his third four-year term, which we rarely see around here. |
