Good Thursday, friends! There’s a whole bunch of stuff on Tuesday's County Commission agenda regarding the 491 mess, so let’s pick it apart. First, to address a reader who wondered whether we are making the matter worse by continuing to talk about it. That’s a point worth discussing. Well, there’s a practical reason for the continuing conversation. It’s going to sound dumb, but here it is: Three weeks between commission meetings. Good Tuesday, friends. Time to talk about the elephant in the room. I’m not yet ready to concede the death of One for All, but I certainly acknowledge its challenges in the wake of the 491 mess. So, let’s break it down. Is One for All still a potential for the 2026 ballot? And would it have a chance of passing? I have three answers: Yes. No. Maybe. Happy Monday! Let’s talk 491 politics. Sen. Blaise Ingoglia, who hasn’t given Citrus County more than a few passing thoughts during his time in office, has jumped into the 491 mess with both feet, extending the debate to an entirely separate — but similar — piece of legislation that he killed on purpose. If you believe Ingoglia, the legislation was a bad law. Kinda odd since he sponsored it. Happy Friday! A favorite Erin story: The three of us were headed to Fort Lauderdale for the weekend. Erin was very young, and the occasion was a very important statewide writer’s conference. The Chronicle paid for me to attend and a hotel room for the Wrights. Erin and her mom entertained themselves while I received great writing tips from Florida’s best newspaper reporters. |
