Happy Monday! We start this week with a little gripe. You know what drives me crazy? Politicians who think they own the job, and are offended when voters decide otherwise. These are the people who campaign as if they’re doing us a favor by running for office. It’s time to celebrate Buddy. In a way he would have loved. Mark your calendar for the afternoon of Saturday, Oct. 12, when we present Mike’s 66th and Buddy Memorial Open House at the New Just Wright Citrus World Headquarters on the shores of Big Lake Henderson. OK, now I’m really steamed. A person can take only so much. Disappointment after disappointment. Eventually, something has to break. I speak, of course, about my license plate. I’ve had the same “support education” license plate for a very long time. Yes, the actual plate switched out every few years, but the design hasn’t. Good morning! Let’s dissect the debate. Oh…not THAT one. The one for the future of Citrus County. I expected some give-and-take Tuesday when commissioners went to vote on the Cardinal Farms plan. You’ll have to excuse me if I’m a little aggravated today. I spent several hours Monday researching the Cardinal Farms proposal, and the more I read, the more aggravated I became. I’m not much for hyperbole, so let’s just be blunt: Let’s start the week talking about something the County Commission should be talking about. Cabot Citrus Farms. That’s the Canadian-based golf course developer being gifted 324 acres of the Withlacoochee State Forest in northern Hernando County for more golf resort development. It’s Friday, so let’s talk about women. I love women. Don’t you? They’re the best. My mom’s birthday was Wednesday, and it got me thinking about how women have impacted my life. Mom passed many years ago, but she instilled in me a sense of treating others with kindness. Then there’s John Labriola. Known more for the moniker I gave him, Library Guy, he is the face of all that is evil and hateful in Citrus County. John thinks it’s good sport to call out the disenfranchised, folks who linger in the shadows because they fear evil like John. You’d think coming out of vacation I’d have a full set of blogs ready to go. Deep, detailed dives into the perils of our community. That’s what one should expect from your favorite blogger after an overnight Keys experience. It was headed that way until a friend came by for a chat Tuesday afternoon, taking my mind in an entirely different direction. Someone needs to contact Commissioner Diana Finegan. Because, boy, do we need a border resolution. I nearly choked on my Cheerios when reading the Tampa Bay Times story about the state handing 324 acres of Withlacoochee State Forest to a Brooksville developer for a golf course. |
