And now, the important question: How’s Bunny adjusting? Answer: Very well, thank you for asking! Major shoutout to the JWC readers whose doggy advice made this house transition so much easier. Your suggestions to bring Bunny with me during the weeks-long moving process was spot on. By the time the move to World Headquarters III was final, she had already picked out her hiding spot in a closet and got a feel for the place. A little about how this went down.
When I learned in July that I needed a new home in a few months, panic set in. I had never moved with a pet before, not on my own. The challenge was finding the right place for both of us. Readers know I’m a praying man and that’s what I did. I prayed for God’s direction, clarity, red light, and green light. And off I went. The prayers helped. Red lights everywhere. I considered a house right away to potentially buy. It was in town, part of the old Inverness neighborhood. It checked many of the boxes. It had been on the market for eight months and the owner received an offer THE VERY DAY we looked. See ya. Meanwhile, one place stayed on the radar. While red warning lights popped up with every other visit, this one home stayed bright green. Wonderful homeowner (who, coincidentally, reads JWC), beautiful surroundings, plenty of outdoor potential for Bunny’s sniffers to get a workout. And private, which is why I won't be talking about it much. As August rolled into September, it was an easy call. I still dreaded taking Bunny from the lake house, the only home we’ve known together, to another house with no lake, no screen porch, no Bunny apartment…pretty much starting over. My then-landlord provided a significant boost in morale. In an act of extreme kindness, he offered me whatever furniture I wanted. I took several items of personal comfort. That blue loveseat couch was a favorite of Buddy’s; as you can see, Bunny is quite fond of it as well. I couldn’t be more pleased with how she's settling in. I tell her all the time how proud I am of her. Bunny is doing very well in the treat department. And plenty of walks. Speaking of that, I’m turning into one of those weirdos who want Daylight Saving Time to end so that the light switches from evening to early morning. You see, I visit with friends in Spring Hill a few mornings a week, and I really need to get out the door by 7. Bunny and I don’t have too many routines, but the early one is fairly set. I’m not leaving until she’s able to, um, you know. It’s a little more adventurous taking that stroll in the moments when it's not quite dark, but not light either. I find myself counting the days till we “fall back.” As for regular walks, I’ve made an executive decision not to let Bunny off leash. Too many potential critter distractions, especially ones I don’t see. We could be walking along, and she suddenly wants to bolt. All she’s known is leash with me, so it’s not like I’m taking away her rights. But I want us outside together as much as possible. Several people, including her vet, suggested a GPS fence, and that’s something I’m looking at. So, we’re settling in. Figuring it out together. It feels good. We’ve landed in a really great spot. Once again, God rains his grace on me. I’m feeling happy, and I can tell that Bunny is happy. You know what they say: Happy dog, happy life. Or something like that. Have a great weekend, friends.
