![]() Ending the week with a little bit of this, a little bit of that… — Club Recovery of Citrus County has an open house at noon Saturday at the Old Schoolhouse Community Center. This project is one of those under-the-radar big deals. Very quietly, Club Recovery and the county agreed on a five-year lease to create a community center at the Historic Hernando School, 2415 N. Florida Ave. Since January, Club Recovery volunteers have worked tirelessly getting the building in great shape for the public. We started having 12-step meetings in March.
I’ve written plenty about this project (full disclosure: I’m a Club Recovery trustee). It’s nothing short of extraordinary what’s happened to that old building. I stopped by on Thursday, and with every visit comes an immediate spirit of fellowship and belonging. I especially want to invite my friends from Beverly Hills, Crystal River, Floral City, Homosassa, and Lecanto. The Old Schoolhouse Community Center is for all of Citrus County. An 11 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony, with county officials in attendance, precedes the open house. Doug Alexander, a son of Hernando, will dedicate the community center with an invocation. This is good stuff, Citrus County. Let’s celebrate. — A reminder that the County Commission meets Monday, not Tuesday, next week. Two workshops in the morning (impact fees and Port Citrus), followed by a full afternoon slate. I glanced at the commission agenda, and there’s plenty to cover, which I will on Monday. I’m going to throw this out here right now, though: What’s happening with Andy Chan at the Inverness Airport is just plain wrong. Someone at the county wants this guy out, and the public is totally clueless because no one is being upfront about it. The business community — hello Citrus County Chamber of Commerce — should be outraged and at Monday’s meeting in Andy’s defense. Hiring a lawyer to comb through the contract to find alleged violations, then sending demand letters...yikes. Have a legitimate issue with the fixed-base operator contract? Settle it the right way at the right time. Someone at the county — I keep saying that because I don’t believe all five commissioners are on board with this latest p.r. disaster — is pushing the envelope. Andy could be the best FBO in Inverness Airport’s history, or he could be the worst. Or something in between. But he has a contract, and the county should abide by it without finding some flimsy loophole to move him along. Man, this stuff burns my britches. It’s been happening more often lately. — So, I sought suggestions a few weeks ago about Bunny’s reaction to stormy weather. One that caught my eye was having a comfortable spot where she feels safe. That’s the laundry room, which area-wise is about the size of her crate. When the thunder starts, as it did Thursday, or Bunny can sense a change in weather, she IMMEDIATELY starts seeking a place to hide. Since the laundry room seemed her first choice, I placed a blanket, pillow, and a couple pieces of my clothing on the floor so she’s comfortable. It’s like a little Bunny apartment. It’s now one of her favorite places, even in good weather or nighttime. I want to be home during bad weather, so she’s not scared alone in the crate. If you see me out at an important event and I make a beeline to the car at the hint of thunder, I’m heading to the World Headquarters for my pup. Priorities! That’s it for this week.
