It’s Friday, and my mind is in a million different places. I’ve pre-moved, which means I’m living in two houses and not really feeling at home in either one. The new place is growing on me quickly. I wrote Tuesday’s blog from World Headquarters III, and followed up writing today’s blog on what potentially could be my work desk. Thanks to great advice from JWC readers, I’m bringing Bunny along gradually. We don’t have the old house stuff in the new house yet, so Bunny is a bit confused even with some of her toys tossed about. There’s a lot of wide open land out here and very few humans, so one of my immediate goals is to train Bunny on simple commands so I can take her for walks off-leash in the wilderness. I know she’d enjoy it. Need to feel confident that she’ll come when I call.
I’ll have more to say about World Headquarters III when we’re all moved in. Meanwhile, here’s an odd and end: — OK, so this is funny. I have four sisters, they all live in Michigan. Three of them, Peggy, Eileen, and Rosemary, are regular readers of my blog. Hi Sisters! Eileen and Rosemary will comment on occasion, usually when the subject is my dog. Peggy, however, comments every single day with the exact same message: “Have a great day, everyone!” And I give her a “love” reaction. So, in the midst of some intense local debate, comes Peggy’s “Have a great day, everyone!” Eventually, that warm approach would offend someone, right? And it happened last week. I forgot the topic, but when Peggy posted, “Have a great day, everyone!” a reader responded directly to her with something along the lines of, “Are you being serious?” Even though the reader would not know that Peggy is my sister, I deleted the comment. I should have left it up and allowed him to receive the Wrath of Peggy. Listen, man, you don’t want to mess with my sisters. Why do you think I moved to Florida? Sure, sunshine, great weather, and a rewarding career. All very significant. Out of my sisters’ line of sight? Priceless. I miss my sisters and brother very much. We gather annually at Thanksgiving, and those two or three days in Michigan are enough to last me another 12 months. We don’t talk much about the blog. I’m very appreciative that they read it and drop into the conversation. It’s always good to have other Wright perspectives. — Thursday was my mom’s birthday. Mom’s been gone a long time, but I sure think of her and Dad a lot. I know they’d be proud of what I’ve done here, but I’ve always been the outlier of the family. I left for Florida close to 40 years ago; nearly everyone else is still, at most, a few hours from one another. I see other families everywhere, and I miss mine. My parents instilled in their children a sense of fairness and well-being. My siblings are kind, they are generous with their time and resources. They love their children, pets, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. They’re solid people. Glad we’re on the same team. This move makes me melancholy. It’s just me and Bunny, and all of it is brand new. I’m praying today for the calm that Mom exhibited during her family’s many challenges. With that, I’ll sign off for the day.
