We’re going to bounce around a little bit today and see how all this works out. — Speedy recovery to Chamber of Commerce president/CEO Josh Wooten, who was hospitalized Sunday after a heart attack. Josh had his stent procedure Monday morning and is on the mend, thank God. — Savannah’s post Sunday evening about her dad scared the crap out of me. It’s weird getting to our age when the warranties run out. Playing with house money by this point. —I reposted Savannah’s message Sunday night and the community responded. Over 400 reactions and 200 prayer comments. I guess people like the guy. — I’m a big Josh Wooten fan. Our friendship goes deep and through many trials. I bet there are dozens, at least, who can say the same thing. He has that effect on people. No chamber president could get away with being as outspoken as Josh, because everyone knows his heart is in the right place. What an absolute community champion that guy is.
(And will do anything for fun as evidenced in today’s photo from a years-ago Chronicle Diva Night. We're actually enjoying ourselves.) — He’d want me to cut the emotional stuff and get in some politics. Patience there, big fella. Gotta watch your health. Speaking of that… — At a friend’s suggestion I posted a Facebook message Friday, two or three sentences, saying Waffle House was coming to Homosassa near Sugarmill Woods. We had a feeling the post might take off some. Guess so. By Monday, it had 64,000 looks and 150 comments of various sorts. Waffle House. Love my county. — I have a mailbox outside my home for the first time in 20 years. While I still have a post office box for business purposes, it’s very cool to walk outside my house each day for the mail. If you’re thinking, “Man, that’s lame,” I wouldn’t necessarily disagree. — Having a mailbox means I’ve been collecting the candidate mail pieces the last few weeks. I have them all piled up on my desk. Just for fun, I planned to whip through them and give an impression of each one. I’ll cut to the chase. Ended up being a late-night rewrite. Let me explain. Remember how I mentioned just a few days ago that the start of early voting was essentially the shutdown date of new political blogs? Meaning, the news world generally won’t spring something new on voters in the days before the election. Well, I ran across something on Monday that, at first blush, didn’t seem all that big a deal. It involved a candidate and an off-shoot of that person’s campaign. I found it interesting and reached out to the candidate to let them know I’d be writing it. I had it written up and nearly ready to post, still convinced that it didn’t harm the candidate at all. But then the candidate asked if it would be fair, and I started thinking about it. While the subject matter didn’t reflect poorly on the candidate at all, the mere mention of the candidate’s name with the subject could provoke some heartburn. I can’t take that risk during early voting week. The info will stay with me today. — So, um, that leaves me with some time to fill. The New Just Wright Citrus World Headquarters on the shores of Big Lake Henderson has an incredible feature: The house faces due east, which affords me spectacular views of rockets blasting off from the Kennedy Space Center. My rocket launch app (yup) alerted me at 6:30 Monday morning of a launch taking place in a few minutes. I went outside watching the countdown and liftoff on my phone, then a bright orange dot appeared on the horizon and headed straight toward the tangerine sunrise. It literally streaked across the sky. Never seen anything like it. That’s how my Monday started. Can’t wait to see what’s in-store today. Have a great Tuesday, friends. Join the discussion on our Facebook page. Enjoying the blog?
