Here it is, 5 p.m., and a blank screen. Numerous reasons for that. They all boil down to the same thing. I had an idea, thought it through, and didn't like it. Had another idea, thought it through, and didn't like it. Had another idea, thought it through, didn’t like it. And that’s the stuff of blank screens.
Wednesdays are often frustrating for blog writing. I haven’t been able to pinpoint exactly why that it, but I have a few theories: — I start the week with a theme for the week, but then lose interest. Writing about politics all week on Sunday sounds like fun; by Wednesday, I’m tired of my own voice. — My brain gets full. I’ve had some detailed Cattle Dog chats this week with folks about growth, childhood poverty, impact fees, and the like. My brain is crammed with this stuff. None of it is blog-ready, but it’s taking up a lot of thinking space. — I’m reluctant to get into anything heavy on Thursday. It’s almost the weekend. We’ve already spent the first three days of the week on serious matters. I know me. I get caught up in these issues like everyone else. If I don’t take a breath, I’ll easily fall into the mode of Mr. Big Shot. So, nothing of significance today. Just some (extremely) random thoughts… — I’m often on the City of Inverness’ case about repaving city streets, but no more. Not only has the city resurfaced the neighborhood streets, but the busier ones, like Montgomery Avenue, are being resurfaced as well. As a city resident, the road work is quite noticeable. And appreciated. — Went out Wednesday to Congressman Gus Bilirakis’ community meeting in Citrus Springs. I wanted to see if protesters would show up. A few, but most folks attended to get information about senior citizen programs, which was the point of the event. Unrelated to the congressman, but that Citrus Springs Community Center is a cavern. I mean…it is huge. And it feels huge. Great locale for stuff like this. — Suggestion for Pirates Cove: We need an open house asap. County, don’t make this complicated. Finish the paperwork, remove fencing, and invite citizens out to take a look. A ribbon-cutting would be nice. It’s a big deal. Treat it as such. — In an attempt to dislodge ideas Wednesday afternoon, I took a drive with Bunny up S.R. 200, across to U.S. 41 on Withlacoochee Trail (not to be confused with the Withlacoochee State Trail), then back home the same way. Traffic report: It’s still there. Getting worse. There’s no escape route. A friend from Hernando County recently sought suggestions to take out-of-towners for a visit to Dunnellon. I recommended Swampy’s on the Rainbow River. He reported that they loved everything about the experience. Except one thing: Driving through Citrus County to get there. This is our new reality. The best drives are outside Citrus County. Never thought I’d say that. — I’m a Skittles guy. If I’m stationary for more than 20 minutes, Skittles are nearby. I’m also kind of a Skittles snob; I don’t like the green and purple ones. I’ve painstakingly gone through the bag, removing offending colors. All the while I’m thinking, so this is how you spend a Friday night. Separating Skittles. I’m just crazy like that. As you can see, the well is dry. It happens. Have a great one, friends.
