What a few weeks we’ve had around here, right? First I’m planning a party. Then an eviction. Then a move into the new Just Wright Citrus World Headquarters on the shores of Big Lake Henderson. As that’s taking place, a middle-of-the-night tornado rips a path through Crystal River, as if our coastal neighbors haven’t suffered enough from Hurricane Idalia flooding a month ago. Friday’s question: Does it ever stop? I didn’t make it to Crystal River on Thursday though I really wanted to. Not to gawk or see something I had not before seen. Just wanted to be there in our neighbor’s time of need. One of my many chores at the Chronicle over the years was editor of Sound Off. Think about that for a second. Yes, Sound Off has an editor. As crazy and at times a little unhinged the Sound Off calls are, you should see the stuff we didn’t run. It’s Wednesday, so let’s get right to it. First: I wore matching socks to Tuesday’s County Commission meeting. Low bar, for sure, but we’re in the middle of moving and my life is in disarray. It’s my first time writing in the new Just Wright Citrus World Headquarters on the shores of Big Lake Henderson and I’ll admit to being a little nervous. Plus, I’m rusty from nothing but birthday open-house stuff, so I’m going to ease back into political writing with an old newspaper trick called the Q-and-A. So, how was your weekend? Get a little shopping done? Watch some college football? Maybe visit with the grandkids? That’s nice. My weekend? Thanks for asking. It was SPECTACULAR! It was the day before April Fools 2005 when I moved into this little cabin on the lake, fresh from a divorce. Over the next 18-plus years, just about every significant event of my life happened here. I love this property more than most people. Please excuse me if I’m more scattered today than usual. We’ve got this party planning thing going on and it is consuming a significant amount of my brain. If all goes well, Saturday’s open house at the Just Wright Citrus World Headquarters on the shores of Big Lake Henderson should be lots of fun. So, how was your Tuesday? Mine was…interesting. It started a week ago. I was scheduling a house cleaning at the Just Wright Citrus World Headquarters to prepare for Mike’s 65th and Bluegrass this Saturday. I wanted to pick a day I wouldn’t be around to give my friend the time she needed to perform miracle cleaning in the house. And this is why my job is so fun. Recall a while back I wrote about a proposed Tidal Wave car wash on C.R. 491 in Lecanto and how the County Commission torpedoed it on an unusual vote. The process — approving a plat to divide property into individual buildable lots — normally takes no time but not in this case. |
