You can tell I’m losing my edge when I come up with the lamest idea to mask that I really have no particular plan for today. “Whiner Friday.” That was the idea. I’d write 700 words whining about this and that. I hatched this act of brilliance driving home Thursday on S.R. 44 from Crystal River, while trying to dream up a blog topic to wrap around today’s photo of me in the Floral City Library. And…nothing. At least, nothing that would produce more than a few paragraphs.
“Whiner Friday” was my second idea. The fact it made it as far as the keyboard suggests my head isn’t screwed on straight. Before jumping to too many conclusions, let me explain. I’m tired. Buddy the dog tired. I did not sleep a wink Wednesday night. I haven’t pulled a true all-nighter since I typed a 25-page final term paper without notes my second year at Central Michigan University to pass journalism communications. I needed the class for my major, and to pass I had to pull off the miracle term paper ace. Success! That was more than a few years ago. I now require an hour or three of beauty rest, and going the whole night without so much as nodding off was a little unnerving. That wouldn’t be enough to make me see prose in “Whiner Friday.” This was what I call a heavy government week. I know that’s basically all we do here, but sometimes the week is especially loaded down with government stuff. Lord knows we love writing about the government, but a steady stream tends to jam up the mind. So much that all logic seeps out. Next thing you know, I’m getting phone calls from people 10 minutes after a blog posts, asking if I’ve lost my mind. The only way to get myself right (besides sleep) is to find some peace for a while. Which actually leads to today’s photo. I’ve needed a mechanic for months now. Nothing major, but I want a reliable doctor for my car. I drive to Spring Hill many mornings a week to meet with some friends. I started noticing this garage on U.S. 41 right at the Orange Avenue intersection in Floral City. Local shop with a great name: Reborn Auto Center. So, I stopped by this week and made an appointment for a brake job. What I especially liked about a mechanic in Floral City is the ability to explore the area while my car’s getting fixed. I dropped the car off Wednesday afternoon and then walked to the Floral City Public Library. It’s the county’s smallest, but like most everything else in Floral City, it is quaint and homey. Finding a spot in the corner, I spent the next two hours poring over campaign reports. Work for sure, but I’ve always felt at home at the county libraries. It was a great place to spend a couple hours. I picked up the car from Reborn (great brakes!), then went home to write. Some blogs I edit time and again with an eagle eye, and Thursday’s blog on the sheriff's race campaign spending was one of those. Anytime I’m dealing with numbers, and this one was loaded with numbers, the error potential goes through the roof. (Thank goodness for percentage calculators.) I ended up posting around 11, and then lay awake for seven hours before starting the new day. And that’s how “Whiner Friday” nearly made its debut. My goodness. I promise you my best every day. Every so often, like today, comes a blog with no real point because I can’t think straight with a head full of politics. Fortunately, that doesn’t happen very often, and I shake it off pretty fast. We have a ton still to discuss. Picking it up again next week. For now, I think I’ll take a nap. Have a restful weekend, friends. Join the discussion on our Facebook page. Enjoying the blog?
