Some blogs write themselves. Like today’s, for example, about how famed hate group MassResistance is taking credit for Diana Finegan’s County Commission primary win and urging people to throw their support behind a certain Inverness City Council candidate who is the group’s local hate leader. We’ll touch on the first part. Stay tuned this week for the rest.
Strapped in? Here we go. Of course, it all starts with Library Guy. We can go on and on about the trouble he’s dredged up in sleepy Citrus County, but he brought the big guns in by attaching to MassResistance, a group that believes in wholesome family activities like browbeating people who are different from them. Library Guy has a cute little newsletter where he rails about “leftists” in the media and Republican Party, and generally comes off as a complete fool. So, naturally, an astute group like MassResistance sees Library Guy as a hero of sorts and is proud to have him chairing the Citrus County, Florida, chapter. Just dandy. That little newsletter endorsed Finegan for the County Commission District 2 Republican primary, which she won handily over Stacey Worthington. It also endorsed three other candidates who finished well out of the running in their races. Finegan, who “faces” NPA Paul Grogan in the general election, is now the MassResistance sweetheart. Check out the organization’s website which features prominently a photo of the victor with Sheriff Mike Prendergast, a Finegan supporter, from Finegan’s campaign Facebook page on Primary Election Night. We’re going to stop it right there for a moment. Before writing about Finegan touting Library Guy’s endorsement, I sent her a text asking why she’s aligning herself with a hate organization. She claimed to have no knowledge of MassResistance until I asked her about it, and then said I was the one dividing the county for personal gain. She refused to distance herself from Library Guy or MassResistance other than to say: “I don’t endorse hate of any kind to any group of people. Rooted in Christian values, I try my best, daily, to be kind and gracious to others.” Now she’s the MassResistance poster child. One cannot be “kind and gracious to others” while being propped up by an organization that brags about creating division in our community. It preys on well-meaning people who don’t know any better, who actually think our libraries are riddled with gay pride displays and drag queen story hour. They aren’t, but don’t let facts get in the way of a good anti-leftist rant. (As for Prendergast, what are we to think about HIS face adorning the MassResistance homepage? I realize he’s just a part of the Finegan photo, but it’s been posted there for a week already. If that were me, I would have demanded the photo be removed pronto.) Finegan has long believed Library Guy is a nice guy, only misunderstood. Facts and behavior would suggest otherwise. But we’ve moved past him. Now a well-known national hate group is taking credit for Finegan winning the District 2 primary. She is the MassResistance candidate. I guess that means she’ll be the MassResistance commissioner. Lucky us. The smart move is for Finegan to denounce this group, but don’t expect that. Too many of her supporters are of the Library Guy Gang and she’s already told both the Chronicle and Chamber of Commerce she won’t participate in their questions of candidates. We’ll just have to see how this plays out once she’s in office. We have so many issues and challenges in Citrus County, and Finegan will be right there with four other commissioners trying to solve them. Roads, taxes, growth, affordable housing, crime, environment — pick any one as the issue of the day. Library displays? Picking on gays and lesbians? C’mon. Grow up.
